Q&A with Eliza Harry – One of Australia’s Most Prominent Hiking Influencers

Eliza, how did you get started on Instagram? Tell us what makes you unique and how it differs in such a crowded industry.

I’m a self-confessed geography nerd and hiking enthusiast who had a dream to start an Instagram page to share my passion for the world. I’ve had a hiking page on Instagram since I was 15 years old, sharing photos of Australia’s iconic landscape. When I was 21, I traveled abroad for the first time. I went to Nepal just to hike the Annapurna mountain range for two weeks. It was an incredible experience. I knew doing a lifestyle page on Instagram was the right thing to do for me because it didn’t feel like a job. It was an escape from my 9 to 5 job working as a junior financial advisor at the time.

If you’re smart about it, brands that align with your passions will work for you. So, I was able to start monetizing my content. I think what makes my profile different is that I offer a unique glimpse into the lifestyle of an Australian corporate worker during the week and a nature enthusiast on the weekends. I’m just being myself online and showing all that goes into it.

What would you say are the biggest challenges in your profession or when starting a business in general? How do you overcome these challenges?

I would describe the biggest challenge in my profession as the “pull” of social media. It is tempting to spend all your time on your phone. You really need to focus on why you are doing this and make sure you make time to keep doing the things that you really love and enjoy. I am lucky to have people who motivate me and keep me on track around me. I pride myself on having amazing and understanding friends. It is very important to have a base of operations. A group of people who enlighten you and make you excited about life. When times are tough, these are the people who help you get through it and remind you how good things are.

He has built a huge following on Instagram, something that many people online strive to achieve. What is your secret to scaling an online business?

I think the most important part of scaling a business is the people. If people are excited about what you are doing and believe in your mission, they will refer other like-minded employees. One of my favorite quotes is: “If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together. “I firmly believe that when hiring a team, the most important thing to look for is that your values ​​align.

In addition, it is important to consider what you are most passionate about. Remember why you started in the first place and never lose sight of where you want to go. Anyone just starting out needs to take the time to clearly articulate their vision and then set small achievable goals to get there.
