Content curation and how to do it

Content curation is all the rage and a growing trend. Content curation is the structured presentation of the best information for the benefit of your consumers that is not created by you. Now the question arises, why should you include the content you didn’t create in your course? It has certain advantages-

Fill the gap in existing content

Your existing content, even if carefully created, always leaves room for doubt, as some gaps may remain. Those gaps can be bridged by using content created by someone else. Of course, due recognition is a precedent in such situations.

Value for content consumers

The content you create is consumed by multiple people. All those people follow your content because it gives them the value they want. Great content, even if it wasn’t created by you, needs to reach your stakeholders to grow your knowledge base. And you want to be in his good books.

The content curation process consists of the following five steps:

1. Assembly

The first step concerns gathering content that will resonate with your readers and reinforce your ideas mentioned above. You can check out the works of other industry experts, subscribe to relevant magazines or blogs so you’re never out of the loop, and have curable content ready.

2. Selection-

This next step concerns selecting the most suitable content from the horde of others who didn’t cut. This can be due to a number of reasons. But, the fact is that the selected one best suits your needs.

3. Categorization-

The next step concerns the categorization of the selected data in different formats. These formats can be blogs, infographics, electronic books, videos, audios, etc. Also, these different data formats need to be shared on relevant platforms such as newsletters, blogs, social media. Here, the decision on what form of content is shared on which platform is decided.

4. Comment-

Just sharing each other’s content cannot be enough as a content curator. As a well-informed source of information, your comment is much needed to personalize your post. This gives you the opportunity to connect with your readers by sharing your opinion on those ideas and how much you agree with the author.

5. Presentation-

The last step in the content curation process is presenting that data for readers to consume. For example, an article written by another author, which contains a large amount of data, can be formulated in the form of an infographic, to increase consumption by making it easier.
